Mr. Chander Shekhar took over charge of the post of Assistant High Commissioner of India in Sylhet on 03 April, 2024.
He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1991. In a career spanning over three decades, he has served in several Divisions of the Ministry of External Affairs in various capacities. Before assuming his current role as the Assistant High Commissioner in Sylhet, he was working in the Emigration Policy and Welfare Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, where he looked after issues related to the welfare of Indian workers overseas. He has also served as the Deputy Passport Officer in the Regional Passport Office, Delhi.
He has worked in different capacities at the Indian Missions/ Posts in Austria, Armenia, Denmark, Belgium and Russia.
Apart from his professional life, he has a keen interest in sports, reading and traveling.
He is a father of three children.
